Russell P. Dunnum M.D. is President and CEO of WorkMed, a full-service occupational and workers’ compensation medical provider in San Diego, California. For more than 20 years, Dr. Dunnum has helped prevent and treat thousands of work-related injuries through his expertise in preventive medicine, clinical care and education. Specializing in occupational, industrial and workers’ compensational medicine since 1985; Dr. Dunnum has worked closely with employees, employers and insurance carriers to significantly reduce healthcare costs, workers’ compensation insurance reserves and premiums for employers.
Dr. Dunnum’s quality healthcare services and understanding of the workers’ compensation law has helped WorkMed become one the top industrial healthcare providers in southern California for companies like Bill Howe Plumbing, San Diego City Schools and Salk Institute.
Dr. Dunnum also has served as a key consultant to the City and County of San Diego, as well as a leading consultant to the California State Legislature on vital issues relevant to the practice of occupational medicine.
Prior to launching WorkMed, Dr. Dunnum was a treating physician for some of the nation’s top professional sport teams including the San Diego Chargers, Los Angeles Lakers and San Diego Sockers. In addition, he was a treating physician for Pro Golf Association (PGA) and United States Olympic Team Athletes. Previously, Dr. Dunnum served as Medical Director of Occupational Medicine for Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group and OASIS Medical Group in San Diego.
Dr. Dunnum has been a member and has served on a number of medical boards and associations to include San Diego County Medical Society, California Medical Society, American Occupational Medical Association, American Academy of Sport Medicine, American Academy of Disability Evaluating Physicians, American Academy of General Physicians and the American Academy of Forensic Examiners.
Dr. Dunnum received his bachelorette degree (BA) from the University of California at San Diego (UCSD) with honors; majoring in biology/bioengineering and a dual minor in physiology and economics of health systems. Dr. Dunnum received his doctorate of medicine (MD) with honors from Brown University Medical School in Providence, R.I. He completed his medical residency training at University of California San Francisco (UCSF). Dr. Dunnum is board certified in Disability Evaluation and a Fellow of the American Academy of Evaluating Physicians and a Certified Medical Review Officer (MRO).
